Double Portrait is another work from the Koetsch & Chu collaboration (see Chu's Maze). The Double Portrait explores our respective memories of youth. One figure holds a net created by Jeremy Chu made of rubber bands from Singapore. The smell, color and texture of these rubber bands still stir memories of Chu's childhood. Memorabilia of Chu's Chinese grandmother, who immigrated to Singapore as a yourg girl, are embedded in the net forging a link to Chu's ancestors. The other figure holds the GI Joes that I played with as a boy. The Lotus pose reflects my own embrace of Asian spiritual systems.
